When someone is in the market for a new PS4 controller, they have more options than they might initially imagine. They can find more than just those that come directly from Sony. Several other options on the market could work well, and that might even be able to help the buyer to save some money. However, it is still imperative to make sure that the buyer understands some of the things that they will need to consider when buying a controller.
Is Wireless Important?
For most, this will be a matter of choice. Some do not mind having a wired connection and like the fact that there are no worries about charging the controller or changing out a battery. One of the essential things to consider when it comes to wired and wireless options is latency. A wireless controller, especially one not fully charged, tends to have more lag than a wired controller. And that means that there is some input delay from the time the buttons are pressed to the time the actions occur on screen.
In many types of games, this delay is so minimal that it will not matter. However, in competitive games where milliseconds matter, it can mean the difference between winning and losing. If you are playing competitive games online, you might want to choose a wired controller. Most of the time, it will not matter, though. If you aren’t playing against other people online, wireless should be fine for your needs.
Expensive Controllers
There are some controllers, such as the Scuf controller for PS4, that are enticing to many gamers out there. They have some added functionality, and some believe that they will become a better and more competitive gamer if they choose to use those PS4 controllers. That’s not the case, though. A controller will not make someone a better player; it will just give them some additional buttons and options.
While the temptation might be there to buy, these are costly gaming controllers, and it is possible to find great controllers without spending quite so much.
Something else that you might want to avoid if you are going to be competing is a modded PS4 controller. These controllers can be detected, and with so many people recording gameplay today, it is possible to get banned if you use one of these types of controllers. It shouldn’t be a problem with games that are not competitive, though.
